Ferrotramviaria SpA, established in 1937 by Count Ugo Pasquini, in the same year acquired the Bari Barletta tramway from the "Société des Chemins de Fer Economiques" of Brussels, continuing its management and accelerating the implementation of the modernization projects already started by the Belgian companies and not completed due to lack of financial resources. The infrastructure suffered extensive damage during World War II. During the fifties the Ferrotramviaria gave a strong increase to the radical modernization project of the line. The new single-track electrified track was inaugurated in 1965, and the service carried out by modern electric trains with variable composition. At the same time, the supplementary bus service parallel to the railway was started, still in operation today. Since then, with the development of urban centers along the line, the railway has increasingly become a reference in the panorama of local public transport in Puglia due to the constantly increasing number of commuters. In the last forty years the company has accumulated considerable skills in the design of railway infrastructures and management of related services also thanks to the experience gained, as well as in Puglia, in the management of railway lines in Sardinia until the end of the 70s. . This capacity took shape in 2004 with the establishment of the subsidiary Ferrotramviaria Engineering, a company mainly responsible for the design of infrastructures and the relative management of construction works.
