      With a collective handling capacity of 15 million TEUs annually, Port Klang is the 13th busiest container port in the world. It is equipped with 4 container terminals — Northport Container Terminal 1, Terminal 2, Terminal 3, and Westport Container Terminal. Major imports and exports include agriculture-based products like maize, soya bean, wheat, rice, sugar, coconut oil, palm oil, and palm kernel expeller.

      Other cargoes include fertilizers, silica sand, cement, petroleum products, gasoline, sand, etc. The terminals are well-connected with intermodal transport connections for ease of operations and transportation of shipments.

      Spread over ~2,000 acres of land, the Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) is one of the fastest-growing, most-advanced ports in Malaysia. It has a handling capacity of 12 million TEUs per year with 12 container berths. Offering reefer services, warehousing, transportation, and all container maintenance services, the container terminals are updated to function with the latest technology for enhancing operations.

      They are backed by Radar Information Processing and Display (RIPD) that updates with real-time status of each container to the marine department authorities. Strong IT network, connectivity, accessibility, state-of-the-art infrastructure, and naturally sheltered deep water makes Tanjung Pelepas Malaysia’s largest and most efficient ports for handling the biggest vessels and container shipments.

      Penang Port is a hub of international maritime trade due to its ideal location on the Strait of Malacca. Quick Fact: Malaysia is one of 3 countries that has control over the super-important Strait of Malacca, along with Singapore and Indonesia. The port of Penang is equipped to handle all kinds of containerized cargo including dry cargo, bulk, break-bulk, and liquid. It also has a Free Commercial Zone for easing trade for business owners and MNCs.

      The port has 5 container terminals, the most important one being the North Butterworth Container Terminal (NBCT) with a handling capacity of 2 million TEUs annually. It is equipped with all modern facilities with ample storage space, berths, quays, cranes, forklift trucks, etc. to handle the huge incoming container traffic. It manages a variety of cargo including cement, limestone, sugar, iron ore, steel, rice, manufactured goods, etc.

      Johor (or Johore) Port was established in 1977 as a discharging point for cocoa, rice, and textiles in Malaysia. It was one of the first ports in the country to have a Free Trade Zone area with custom duty-free warehouses. Over time, it has grown rapidly to transform into one of the major shipping ports in the country. With a handling capacity of 1.2 million TEUs, it has the largest container terminal for cement, fertilizers, and palm oil in Malaysia.

      Other important ports in Malaysia include Kuantan, Bintulu, Kemaman, Lumut, Labuan, Kota Kinabalu, Piri, Sepangar, among others.
